China Summer Camp | Transportation

Our camp transportation includes the use of a bus or van for arranged sightseeing, city exploration, outdoor activities, and weekend trips.

We understand adult students may like to explore the city on their own in their free time (so do younger learners with their parent's permission). As Shanghai is a very big city, the use of public transportation is inevitable. We suggest using a taxi. The taxis in Shanghai and Beijing are clean, safe, well-regulated, plenty, and cheap (14RMB-Shanghai, 13RMB-Beijing for the first 3km, 2.4RMB up to 10km, and ¥3.5/km after). A typical ride downtown will cost no more than 30RMB (less than 5 US Dollars). The larger EXPO taxis (Volkswagen Touran) in Shanghai provide comfortable space and exceptional service as the drivers are specially trained to serve Shanghai World Expo back in 2010.

For mature students easy with directions, Metro is also a good option. Shanghai has the second most extensive subway network in the world only after London. The Metro is fast, cheap, air-conditioned, and fairly user-friendly with most signs and station arrival announcements in English (trains can get very packed during rush hour though). Fares range from 3-9RMB depending on the distance. Automatic ticket vending machines take ¥1 or ¥0.5 coins and notes and have services in English.
